It lets users interact with and influence the streamed video game, in contrast to other streaming services.

Beam lets viewers offer challenges to streamers, and can even alter game elements like weapon loadout and the quest selection.

Developers can also design button layouts that allow viewers to interact with the games being streamed through Beam.

"We at Xbox are thrilled about this convergence of playing and watching and we want players to have the freedom and choice of amazing multiplayer experiences across all Beam's platforms," Chad Gibson, a program manager for partner groups at Microsoft's Xbox Live division, said in a statement.

"This acquisition will allow gamers to enjoy the games they love, with the people they love and on the devices they prefer."

The terms of the deal haven't been revealed.

He revealed how the system could be integrated with Minecraft.

'Using 'Minecraft' as one example, with Beam you don't just watch your favorite streamer play but you also participate with them.

You can present them with new challenges and make in-real-time decisions that impact their gameplay, from selecting tools to quests to movement all using simple visual controls.'

Salsamendi states that Beam will continue to run even if Beam and his colleagues are integrated into the Xbox engineering team.

In an article on the Beam website, Salsamendi says the service grew to around 100,000 users following its launch in January of this year.

He writes, "As part Xbox, we will be able scale faster than ever before,"

'We're expanding the team, bolstering our infrastructure and, most importantly, continuing to expand and help the incredible community at Beam.'

The 18-year-old CEO and founder of the company.

After running a massive game server platform hosting Minecraft servers for four years, Matthew Salsamendi, at the age of 18 decided to launch Beam.

The company, which is based out of Seattle allows creators to chat with viewers , and lets them control certain parts of the game streamed.

Players who interact with Beam can control the actions of the person streaming, performing things like setting the weapon loadout they take into the battle in multiplayer shooters, for instance.

It was launched at TechCrunch Disrupt NY in 2016 and won the Startup Battlefield competition.

Salsamendi from Bellevue in Seattle is 'passionate about high availability infrastructure and web performance! According to his bio.

It adds that he can be found programming, designing theater lighting, flying airplanes and making short films in his spare time.

However even Salsamendi was not anticipating the response in a recent interview with Geekwire when asked if he would prefer Gates, Zuckerberg or Bezos in your corner, he said: 'Zuckerberg, hands down.
