Minecraft is among the most played games across many platforms, and it will not have any non-fungible tokens, or NFTs. Mojang, the game's developer has announced on Wednesday on its blog that it would not allow Minecraft NFTs.
"To ensure that Minecraft players enjoy a safe and enjoyable experience, blockchain technology is not permitted to be used within our Minecraft client or server applications, nor may be used to create NFTs associated with any game-related content, such as skins, worlds, personal items, or other mods," Mojang said.
The developer claimed that there have been companies who created NFTs related to Minecraft however, it believes these tokens aren't inclusive and "create an image of the haves and the not-so-haves." Mojang also mentioned concerns regarding fraud cases and artificially inflated prices for NFTs.
The videogame industry hasn't yet fully accepted NFTs, though there are occasional success stories that didn't last due to the current cryptocurrency winter. Experts believe that NFTs will become the norm in the gaming industry once the best method is identified.
