Minecraft: Education Edition is Bringing the Game and Huge Amounts of Resources to The Classroom

Minecraft on Xbox. Minecraft in your hair. Minecraft in schools. It's everywhere. That's the goal of Minecraft Education Edition which is a new version of the most played game in the world that is specifically designed for classroom use. It's designed to educate children (and older players) about everything from ancient history to carefully recreated locations to programming with Redstone.

It's an expansion and purchaseout by Microsoft of MinecraftEdu that has been around since 2011. They've even created a trailer outlining the various ways it has helped:



It's an excellent initiative. I would have slain millions to have anything close to as engaging or videogame-like as Minecraft used as a tool for learning in schools, at any age. I'd still prefer that the PCGN style guidelines and policies were taught to me via the way of blocks rather than terrible words. The key, as always is to get people interested in the process they're learning so that they actually enjoy the process and absorb it.

It costs $5 per user per annum, which is an affordable price considering the number of schools across America and the potential applications. While I wouldn't expect Microsoft to provide it free of charge, given that these kids will be using it in their classes There are bound to be many benefits.



Libraries and museums will also be able to access the information. There's a tonne of custom-made resources that are already available, and more are planned if it does well. If things continue on this way, two billion dollars looks like a significant amount of money.
