-Ang lokasyon ng Pilipinas sa Pacific Ring of Fire ang dahilan kung bakit maraming depositong mineral sa bansa. Ito ay panlima sa mga bansang may industriya ng pagmimina, pangatlo sa dami ng depositong ginto, pang-apat sa tanso, at panlima sa nickel. Ayon sa Kagawaran ng Kapaligiran at Likas na Yaman (Department of Environment and Natural Resources o DENR) humigit-kumulang sa siyam na milyong ektarya o 30% ng kabuoang sukat ng lupa (80 milyong ektarya) ay may depositong mineral na metaliko at limang milyong ektarya ay maaaring may mga depositong hindi metaliko.
Ilan sa mga deposito ng mga metalikong mineral na matatagpuan sa bansa ang ginto, tanso, bakal, chromite, nickel, cobalt, at platinum. Ang mga hindi metaliko ay buhangin, bato, batong-apog (limestone), marmol, luwad, at iba pang hinuhukay na mineral.
Matatagpuan sa Baguio at distrito ng Mankayan sa probinsiya ng Benguet ang mga nagmimina ng ginto at tanso. Ang nickel ay namimina naman sa Palawan at sa Surigao.
Tinatayang 21.5 bilyong metriko tonelada ang mga metalikong deposito samantalang ang mga hindi metaliko ay tinatayang 19.3 bilyong metriko tonelada. Pangunahin at pinakamarami ang deposito ng nickel. Matatagpuan ito sa Surigao del Norte, Davao, Palawan, Romblon, at Samar. Ang bakal ay matatagpuan sa Ilocos Norte, Nueva Ecija, Camarines Norte, at Cotabato samantalang ang tanso ay nasa Zambales, Batangas, Mindoro, Panay, at Negros.
Sa mga depositong hindi metaliko, pinakamarami ang semento, apog at marmol. Ang iba pang hindi metaliko ay asbestos, luwad, guano, aspalto, feldspar, sulfur, talko (tale), silicon, phosphate, at marmol. Ayon sa Mines and Geosciences Bureau, ang ahensiyang nagbibigay ng permiso sa mga kompanyang nagmimina, marami pa ang hindi namiminang mineral sa bansa.
Gayunman kaunti lamang ang kontribusyon ng pagmimina sa kabuoang ekonomiya. Ito ay 0.62% lamang
