Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney says his firm "definitely won't" follow Minecraft developers in banning nonfungible tokens (NFTs).

As previously reported, Mojang Studios, Minecraft developers, banned NFT integrations on Wednesday, as it believes NFTs have a speculative aspect and scarcity, risks of exclusion and scams are against the game's principles.
The move was viewed as highly controversial within the NFT community, but it has been met with praise by the cohort of crypto-skeptic players.
Sweeney's company is responsible for Fortnite the battle royale game that is very popular. It is also considered Metaverse's platform. While Epic Games isn't necessarily pro-crypto or NFTs, the CEO said the company doesn't intend to force any views regarding the subject to its users:
Developers should be able to design their games and you can decide whether or not you want to play them. I believe that operating system makers shouldn't interfere by forcing their views onto others. We won't.
In response to the post, Twitter user Low5ive asked Sweeney if Epic Games' policy on prohibiting "hateful/discriminatory content" differs from this. Sweeney replied that Epic Games makes "editorial" judgements, however NFTs are not currently within their jurisdiction.
"A store could decide to not make such judgments and host anything that is legal, or opt to draw a line at the norms that are accepted by the majority of people as we do, or accept only games that align with the personal beliefs of the owner," he said.
Mojang Studios' NFT ban has been a major blow to NFT Worlds, which is a Minecraft-based project, open-source servers, with one major issue.

Play-to-earn (P2E) is a community-driven platform for play-to-earn (P2E), has an entire NFT and crypto-based ecosystem built around. Its NFTs produce 51,000 Ether (ETH), which is $80.8 million worth trading volume at the time. Since the news broke however the floor price of its NFTs has dropped from 3.33 ETH to 1.01 ETH at the time of writing, and its native token WRLD has dropped by 55% in that timeframe.
The NFT Worlds team said that it is currently "brainstorming" solutions to the Mojang announcement. The team said they are working to connect with Minecraft to see if a possible solution is found. As an alternative, the team suggested a switch to a GameFi platform or a Minecraft-like game engine.
