Yes, the image you see above is of an actual map created in Minecraft. It's part of a 16-kilometer-wide realistic terrain project that gives you a variety of topography for you to build your own on. It's a gorgeous collection of deserts, mountains, swamps, and forests that you can download and use as a background for your own Minecraft builds.
This map is called Kythor and was created by Qwryzu using World Machine and World Painter. soundz promising It took around two months to complete. "I deliberately created this map with huge open spaces to buildin," qwryzu explains. "Specifically, I made it with mods (shoutout to Immersive Railroading gang). It's not the highest detailed map I've ever created, but I would like to see that it will serve as an ideal backdrop for big constructions."
You can download the map for yourself over on Planet Minecraft. It's available for Java Edition, and while it was created in 1.12.2, it should be compatible with any current version however qwryzu isn't certain if the world height changes in 1.17 could cause problems.
Take it seriously, though.
