Minecraft is such a cultural phenomenon that it was slated to have its own three-day convention in September, complete with interactive exhibits as well as co-op and competitive games, live entertainment, panels, and merch. Tickets for the first Minecraft Festival in Orlando will go on sale this week. ReedPop -- which also organizes New York Comic Con and San Diego Comic Con -- has announced that the event has been postponed by a full year due to the coronavirus outbreak. Even though the event was months away and the outbreak is likely to be resolved by then the producers, partners, and exhibitors have faced issues when it comes to planning the fest and making sure the attendees have a great time.
Fans won't have to miss out on Minecraft Live, though. The stream will continue as planned and will feature the latest Minecraft news, features, and behind-the scenes views of the upcoming projects.
With many conventions and events being canceled or delayed due coronavirus-related issues, this announcement isn't exactly a surprise. Minecraft servers However, it seems odd that ReedPop and Mojang -- Minecraft's developer -- announced the convention less than one week ago, and COVID-19 was at top of mind. It was a wise decision to cancel the event prior to when tickets went on-sale and before people made travel arrangements. This saved many headaches.
