To install the OptiFine Mod for Minecraft as standalone configuration (without Minecraft Forge), ensure you're running the newest version of Minecraft and then update to the latest version if you're not. Then launch the Minecraft Launcher, click the Launch Options tab, and select Latest Release. From there, click on the "Game Directory" switch, highlight the directory, and then press Control + C (PC) or Command + C (Mac) to copy the installer directory URL. Close the Launcher, open your browser, and navigate to the official download page for OptiFine: https://optifine.net/downloads.php. Minecraft servers Click the Download link, then click Save or OK to begin the download, then wait for a few seconds for the download process to end. Double-click the downloaded file (which ends in .jar) to launch the OptiFine installer. Press Control + V (PC) or Command + V (Mac) to paste the correct installer directory into the "Folder" field. Then click Install then wait for the installation to complete, and click OK. To play the OptiFine version of Minecraft launch the Minecraft Launcher and click the arrow left of the PLAY button. Click on the OptiFine installer and then click PLAY. If you're planning to install the OptiFine Mod in Minecraft and you're running the Minecraft Forge mod already, the process is slightly different. First, make sure that you're running the most recent version of Minecraft and then update to the most current version if you aren't. Next, open your web browser and navigate to the official download page for OptiFine: https://optifine.net/downloads.php. Click the Download link, then click Save or OK to start the download, then wait for a few seconds for the download to end. After that open your Minecraft mods folder and copy the OptiFine .jar file you just downloaded by pressing Control + C (PC) or Command + C (Mac). Right-click (or Control + click) a blank area inside of the mods folder, and choose Paste to paste the OptiFine .jar file into your mods folder. Now OptiFine can be used with Minecraft Forge. Launch the Minecraft Launcher, click the icon next to PLAY and then play the game. After that, click forge and click PLAY. To learn how to use Optifine only, read on!
