The writer, born Derek Ryan Smith, added an element of dark to his look by wearing the black leather shoes.
The singer completed his style with a stark white shirt and a variety of pieces of jewelry.
Lavigne was nominated for the Best Alternative Video award for her work on the visuals for her track Love It When You Hate Me.
The track, which was the second single off her new album Love Sux and featured rapper Blackbear The song was released in June.

While the track was submitted to win the award, it was given to Maneksin for their work on the clip for their track I Want to Be Your Slave.
