WoW and FFXIV: Boosted Raptr Playtime And ArcheAge Playtime "cratered"

Another month, another Raptr report. Raptr.com released its November top-rated PC games list yesterday. MMOs did well. The Warlords of Draenor expansion has seen World of Warcraft rise to #2 on the list. My world my life Raptr's press release says that "The MMO's monthly playtime was up 71% versus October." Although WoW "likelywas drawing from League of Legends numbers, it could not quite take over the MOBA's #1 position.



ArcheAge playtime decreased by 39.97%, but World of Tanks (and Final Fantasy XIV) had an increase in their playtime. Raptr says that Guild Wars 2 rose in rank, but it lost playtime in November over October. SWTOR dropped two spots in October.



As always, Raptr roundups come with the caveat that they are based on Raptr users on PCs, not all gamers. Certain MMO studios are also known for boosting their Raptr numbers with in-game incentives. But since some of these games do not want to publish data on population, you might call this the next best indicator of popularity, excluding a tour of the servers yourself.

Dragon Age: Inquisition and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare were the first games to appear on the Most Played list this month. World of Warcraft's most recent expansion gave the MMO an increase in popularity after a ten-year hiatus. Spider Solitaire also made a surprise return to the top 20 after many years of absence. The guilty parties know who they are.



Highlights



League of Legends remained in first place in November, despite losing 15.88 percent of the time played in comparison to October. After the sale for Halloween it reached its peak in the middle of the month. Although gameplay was stable for most of the month, there were a few slowdowns as a result of the 4.20 update.



World of Warcraft's Warlords of Draenor likely pulled time from LoL as well as other important games. The MMO's monthly play time was up 71.3 percent over October. As is expected, the expansion and 10 years of anniversary events for the game significantly impacted daily play time, which roughly doubled after the launch of the Draenor expansion and remained strong until the end of November.



The other top five games weren't as fortunate. DOTA 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Smite saw an overall decrease in the time. Smite beat ArcheAge for fifth. Although DOTA 2 and CS:GO experienced double-digit declines (12.49% and 11.59 percent, respectively), Smite was down just 1.



Archeage was down 39.97%, and Smite has made a modest rise in the rankings.



The downward trend continued with Minecraft (-11.70%), Diablo III (down nearly 45% -- we blame WoW for this), and Hearthstone (-13.11 percent, but we expect a rebound in December, thanks to Goblins vs Gnomes).



Chart newcomer Dragon Age, Inquisition, was ranked tenth despite a November release.



While falling behind in the ranks, World of Tanks managed to increase 7.72 percent of playtime in comparison to October. While the WGLNA Gold League Qualifying Rounds took place throughout the month, play was at its peak during the Thanksgiving weekend because of XP multipliers, deals on premium items and the Thanksgiving weekend.



Final Fantasy XIV increased in the amount of time played by 20.97%. This could be due to the release of the Game of the Year edition, which offered 60 additional days of adventure (plus all previously released content) in late October and early November. Mid-month DDOS attacks that caused login issues, did not have a significant impact on game play.



Each Guild Wars 2 and Warframe rose in rank despite having less play time in November than October. Warframe hosted a Movember community event that resulted in the setting of a Guinness World Record. Guild Wars 2's Tangled Path content has been released with new areas, items such as skins, items, as well with other features.



Call of Duty: Advance Warfare - always more of a console juggernaut - launched in November. Based on current trends , we may not be able to see it in December’s Most Played.



Spider Solitaire was re-invented into Most Played for the first time since October 2013. It turns out that Thanksgiving is not only about football, turkey and arguing with family - it's also about Solitaire. The 27th of November was the peak day for Solitaire gameplay.
