Danfoss
Danfoss is a private, global engineering firm with its headquarters in Nordborg, Denmark. It is a manufacturer and provider of technology solutions for industries worldwide. Arla Foods
Located in Arhus, Denmark, Arla Foods is one of the largest dairy companies in the world. More than 17,000 people work for the company, which is owned by more than 10,000 milk producers in Denmark/Sweden. It exports its products to more than 100 countries. Arla Foods is a leading producer of cream cheese, which it sells under the brand name BUKO. Professional bakers in Japan enjoy its creamy spreads.
To meet the rising demand of customers, Arla is expanding its innovation activities. Arla is currently establishing an innovation center in Aarhus that will employ 120 people. The company is planning to invest more than $25 million in the new facility. Arla's innovation strategy is focused on becoming the leader in the world in research and production of dairy products. This is to ensure the company is able to keep up with the fierce competition that is prevailing on the global market.
A.P. Moller-Maersk
A.P., a Danish shipping company, was founded in 1904. Moller purchased the name Maersk for its shipping operations. The name is derived from the mother's maiden name, "Marsk," and it has since grown into one of the most prestigious shipping names in the world. The company began with 35 ships and eventually added tanker operations. The company's fleet grew to 46 vessels by the 1930s. The deadweight capacity of the entire fleet was greater than 160,000 tonnes.
The Danish company is active in a variety of industries which include oil and gas, infrastructure, and shipping. Maersk Line has a large international presence, employing around 250,000 employees in 2012. In 2013, the company ranked as the largest overseas cargo carrier in the world, with over 600 vessels and 3.8 million Twenty-foot-equivalent units (TEU) capacity.
Lego
Lego is among the top Danish companies with more than 1,000 employees at its Billund headquarters. Lego was responsible for around one percent of Danish industrial exports and had a turnover of $50 millions per year as of the 1970s. The company opened new foreign subsidiaries and reorganized its administration as sales increased. Its growth was further accelerated through the acquisition of several smaller companies.
The Lego Group began international distribution of its toys. They began by establishing wholesale agents in Germany and other European countries. They launched their first overseas sales subsidiary in 1956. By the end of the decade, they had established offices in more than 40 countries. Lego considers Europe their main market and makes use of its European base to expand overseas sales.
Novo Nordisk
Novo Nordisk, one of the most prominent companies in Denmark has been in existence for more than 150 years. The company produces insulin which is a medicine that can be used to treat diabetes. Its first product was produced in a basement of a former dairy plant. It was distributed in forty countries and was made from the pancreas of animals. The insulin was initially shipped by refrigerated cars , and later by trains and trucks. The modern facilities of the company were designed by Arne Jacobsen.
The company also participates in public-based activities, including investing in infrastructure and increasing awareness of the disease. The company is also keen to expand its operations into emerging markets like Iran which has enormous potential.
Coloplast
Coloplast is a Danish healthcare company that has a global reach. The products it makes are used in several areas of health care, including the field of wound care and interventional urology. The company employs over 12,500 people around the world, and holds all rights to its products. Its focus is on improving the quality of life of its customers through better patient care.
Founded in 1957 by Aage Louis-Hansen in 1957, Coloplast is one of Denmark's biggest medical technology and life sciences companies. The company is a public company, but its ownership structure is largely family-controlled. Niels Peter Louis-Hansen, who is the son of the founder, Aage has 41% of the voting rights and holds 20% of the company's shares.
