In 1969, Novo's management opted to expand their production capabilities and built a large enzyme plant in Kalundborg, Denmark. The new facility was inaugurated by Novo the same year, following an article in The Lancet, a medical journal, which raised questions about the safety and efficacy of detergent enzymes. According to the article, a few employees of the British detergent factory had suffered from allergies after inhaling a concentrated dust of enzymes.

Arla
