In just under a decade, Technoblade amassed nearly 11 million YouTube subscribers and 3.7 million Twitter followers as he shared his passion for Minecraft, a game in which users can build virtual worlds using blocks and develop their own storylines. In August 2021, he went public by telling his followers that he was diagnosed with cancer. He announced the news through a video of him playing Minecraft.
According to his father, Technoblade wrote his final message about eight hours before his death. In tears, Technoblade's father described his son as "the most amazing child" anyone could ever wish for, adding: "I miss Technoblade."
Technoblade's father broke this sad news to subscribers on his son's channel.
Technoblade's family released an official statement stating that Technoblade was through numerous trials while fighting stage 4 cancer. The video has been viewed more 19 million times. He didn't whine and continued to use his famous strategic mind to overcome what he thought were impossible odds. My son's courage in this situation was a shining example to all of us who had the privilege to be able to walk with him. Thank you for sharing the journey he took and for doing the work he enjoyed for his beloved fans."
Fans, celebrities, and fellow gamers have shared their condolences on social networks.
YouTuber Ted Nivison remembered him as: "Effortlessly funny. Amazingly talented. Too soon. Rest at ease Technoblade.
TommyInnit, another popular YouTuber wrote on Twitter: "Technoblade, a legend. From being a huge fan, to one of his friends, I'm not able to express how grateful I am to have been in his life. He's planning in heaven how to defeat God I'm sure of it.
Minecraft games
In a statement to CNN, Sarcoma Foundation of America paid tribute to Technoblade and expressed "deepest condolences to his family."
Brandi Felser, CEO of the charity, said in the statement: "Technoblade rallied his supporters to raise over $500,000 in the past to fund the research into sarcoma. This allowed SFA to award research grants in Technoblade's name. Through his efforts, he has left an impactful legacy that will be felt by generations to come."
Felser stated that Technoblade will be recognized with the organization's Courage Award, which is an annual honor given to those who inspire others to "create hope and a better lifestyle for the sarcoma patient population" later in the year.
