Minecraft Gets Twitch-y with new Partnership For Integrated Streaming

Twitch and Mojang have partnered to deliver an integrated streaming experience in the indie game Minecraft, the companies announced at MineCon today. According to the press release that was released, players playing on PC and Mac will soon be able to stream their games to their Twitch.tv channels.



Matthew DiPietro, vice president of marketing at Twitch said in the same press release that Minecraft has "struck an extremely powerful chord" with Twitch users. Its popularity is growing and shows that people are enjoying watching video games, even if they are not the most popular eSports games. We can expect a moment of watershed for both the players and the spectators once the ability to easily broadcast gameplay directly to Twitch begins live."



Although this announcement is aimed at PC and Mac users, it's important to note that the Xbox One will be getting its own version of Minecraft, and Twitch is integrated into Microsoft's next-gen console. This means that there is a chance for Twitch streaming from an Xbox One console version of the game. If, of course, a creeper appears and causes destruction to everything. Sssssssss.

Twitch Announces a Minecraft Partnership at MINECON 2013.



PC and MAC users of Mojang's Minecraft will soon be able to broadcast their games to Twitch by pressing a button



SAN FRANCISCO2 November 2013- Twitch, the world's leading video platform and gaming community, today announced at the sold out MineCon convention an alliance with Mojang to bring broadcasting capability to Minecraft. The integration of Twitch into the PC and MAC versions of the most popular game lets players broadcast directly to their Twitch channels. Soon, Twitch functionality is available.



Developed and published by Mojang, Minecraft launched on May 17 2009. It is the most popular PC Sandbox adventure game, selling more than 13,000,000 units on PC and more than 33,000,000 units across all platforms. It has been awarded several high-profile awards including five Game Developers Choice Awards at 2011 Game Developers Conference. MINECON 2013, Mojang’s annual Minecraft convention was a huge success. More than 7,500 people attended eager to see the next steps in one of the most innovative games of all time, and to meet the team behind it.



Twitch has seen its popularity rise, with Twitch's Top 20 Games page showing it each month. This has been the case since Twitch launched in 2011.
