What to Know



To install Linux start by opening Chromebook Settings. Select Linux (Beta) > Turn on in The Linux Pane. minecraft server list Select Next, enter an username and then select Install.


Download the Debian/Ubuntu Minecraft.deb file. It can be saved in Linux files under My Files. Double-click Minecraft.deb and then select Install.


After the installation is complete after which you can start the App Drawer and navigate to the Linux folder. Choose Minecraft Launcher to launch your game.

How to Get Minecraft on Chromebook



You can play Minecraft on Windows, Linux, macOS, and even on mobile devices such as Android or iOS. Unfortunately, no version of Minecraft has ever been developed for the Chromebook. You can , however, install Linux directly from the Chromebook settings page. Once you have done that it, you are able to install and play Minecraft on the Chromebook with ease.



To install Linux on your Chromebook to install Linux, go to Chromebook Settings and select Linux (Beta) from the left menu. Select Switch on in the Linux pane.



Setting up Linux on your Chromebook will consume up to the equivalent of 450MB of your local Chromebook storage. To ensure that you have enough storage, use the Chromebook file manager.



On the pop-up Linux setup window, select Next to continue. Enter a username for your Linux session and click Install. Chromebook can take a while to download and configure the virtual machine on which Linux is installed. After it's completed you'll see the Linux terminal window appear.



Visit the Minecraft download page to download the Debian/Ubuntu Minecraft.deb zip file to your Chromebook. Save the file to the Linux files folder, under My files, in your Chromebook storage area.



Double-click the Minecraft.deb folder, then click the Install button to install Minecraft on your Chromebook's Linux virtual machine.



After the installation is completed, start the Application Drawer Click on the Linux folder, and select Minecraft Launcher.



To install the latest Java Development Kit version, if you see an error during the installation, open the Terminal app from the app drawer.



- sudo apt-get update


- sudo apt-get upgrade


- sudo apt get install default-jdk





This will start Minecraft for Chromebook. The login window will appear. Log in to your Minecraft account and start playing Minecraft! Once you have launched the game, the app will install the most recent version of Minecraft to your Linux container.



The Demo can be played without purchasing Minecraft. To play the full version, you must click the Buy Now button and purchase Minecraft Java Edition.



How to Play Minecraft on Chromebook



After following the steps to install Minecraft It will run perfectly on your Chromebook. However, you may notice that the game to be a little slow or your mouse may not work quite right. There are several Chromebook settings you can tweak to improve performance and reduce the possibility of encountering issues.



Chrome Flags enabled



Enable Chrome flags. These flags will enhance your Minecraft experience. If you don’t see any flags below, it means that the flag is not accessible on your Chromebook. It is not necessary to enable the flag.



You can enable all flags listed below by opening the Chrome browser and typing (or pasting!) the URL into the URL. Then, select Enabled from the dropdown menu.

Optimize Minecraft Settings for Chromebook



To optimize Minecraft settings for Chromebook to optimize settings for Chromebook, hit Esc while playing the game and select Options from the menu. Select Video Settings. The following settings are adjustable.



Graphics Fast


Smooth Lighting: Off


Render Distance: 10 chunks


Max Framerate: 30 frames per second


Clouds OFF


Particles are very small.


Shadows of Entity: Off



Install OptiFine in Minecraft



If you're using a lower-end Chromecast device and find that Minecraft still runs pretty slow even after changing the settings above then you should install OptiFine for Minecraft. This app optimizes your framerate on lower-end Chromebooks. Just download the latest version of Optifine put it in your Linux files folder, and in the Terminal window type:



java -jar OptiFine_1.14.4_HD_U_F5.jar



(Replace the file's name with the name of the file you downloaded. In our case above, our file name is OptiFine_1.14.4_HD_U_F5).



Select Install and OptiFine will install onto your Chromebook Linux installation.



This means that you can play Minecraft full-screen on a Chromebook and it will run well.



Chromebook and Minecraft



There will be a message telling you that Minecraft isn't compatible with Chromebook on the Minecraft sign-up page. This is true, however, when you follow the steps above, you aren't playing Minecraft on your Chromebook. It's running inside a Linux virtual machine running on your Chromebook. As as the Minecraft servers are aware you're playing Minecraft on the Linux machine.



This means that as long as you have one of the supported Chromebook devices, you can run Linux (Beta) and play Minecraft on your Chromebook without any problems at all. If you don't own an eligible device, but you really would like to play Minecraft you might want to consider upgrading to one the best Chromebooks available today.
