The Third Tab Contains Building Materials

Java Edition's crafting table interface.

Crafting is the process of creating tools, items, and blocks in Minecraft. Crafting is the act of moving items from the inventory to a crafting grid and arranging them according an established recipe. A 2x2 grid of crafting can be accessed from the player's inventory . Likewise, a 3x3 grid can be accessed by using crafting tables. You can also create items in the 2x2 grid in the crafting table.

2x2 Crafting grid (inventory)

3x3 Crafting grid (crafting table)

Creative, Survival, Adventure and Spectator (Java Edition only) players always have access to the 2x2 crafting grid on their inventory screen. Small crafting recipes that are at least 2x2 are possible to make. This includes wooden planks, crafting tables, sticks torches, and some recipe that are not shaped. You can craft items by using the 3x3 grid. To do this, create a crafting board with 4 wooden planks and place it on the globe. Then you press the use button while facing it. The interface will appear with a 3x3 grid that players can use for crafting any recipe for crafting within the game. There is also a recipe book that you can get all the crafting recipes.

Some recipes don't require ingredients be put in a particular order on the grid for crafting. These are often called shapeless recipes. For instance, players can create a fermented spider's eye by placing the ingredients anywhere on the grid. [note 1]

On the other side, many recipes need to have their ingredients placed in the proper order on the crafting grid. They are also known as recipes that are shaped. Shaped recipes allow ingredients to be'moved either up or down, left, right, or both. They can also be turned upside down. A 3x1 recipe like bread can be created using the top middle, bottom, and top rows of the 3x3 grid. However, it cannot be made with the 2x2 grid as it requires three items wide. Additionally, bows can be created using strings that are placed on the left instead of on the right.

There are recipes that can not be mirrored or moved in this way. These are known as fixed recipes. NEED REALTOR For example, dyes in banner recipes need to be specifically placed to achieve the desired pattern. *Bedrock Edition only. Fixed recipes can be added using mods or data packs.

As opposed to other game-related actions like brewing, smelting and creating, crafting is completely silent.

Shapeless recipes are identified on this wiki using the arrows of a pair that are intertwined on the crafting table graphic. This symbol does not actually appear in the game. Recipe Book[Recipe Book[

The recipe book is a mechanic in Minecraft that serves as a recipe book and also as a crafting reference. It lists every crafting recipe the player has tried using materials.

There are many ways to organize recipes for crafting for example:

The first tab is comprised of all unlocked recipes. The second tab contains weapons, tools, and armor. The third tab includes building materials. The fourth tab is food items and miscellaneous items. - The fifth tab contains redstone materials. Recipe system[System for Recipes[

Recipes, including crafting recipes, are customizable by data packs in Java Edition or add-ons in Bedrock Edition. There are currently 379 crafting recipes as of 1.16.

Certain recipes can be animated to save space (requires JavaScript). On this wiki, shapeless recipes are marked with a pair of intertwined arrows on the graphic of the crafting table, while fixed crafting recipes are identified with an exclamation point. These symbols do not appear in the game.
