A Computer Server Has been Haunted Clinton in 2022. Now it's Trump's Turn

Content of the article WASHINGTON -- Donald Trump repeatedly attacked Hillary Clinton as his Democratic opponent in 2016 over her use of private computers to send official emails when she was U.S. Secretary of State.

The Republican president is experiencing server issues in his bid to elect himself to the White House in 2020.

A computer server was haunting Clinton in 2016. It's now Trump's turn.

A whistleblower's complaint which has led to the U.S. House of Representatives to open a Trump impeachment probe accuses White House officials of trying to hide "politically sensitive" information about Trump's July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelenskiy by transferring it to one of the government's most sensitive computer systems.

Content of the article The whistleblower, in the complaint, which was made public on Thursday, stated that White House lawyers directed officials to remove the call summary from the classified computer system, or server, on which the administration typically stores these documents to "lock down" access to the information.

Calls and transcripts of presidents' conversations are stored on classified White House computer system that is accessible to "at least, a minimal two-digit number" of people according to Larry Pfeiffer, director at the Michael V. Hayden Centre for Intelligence, Policy and International Security.

He said that moving the transcript to a more restricted system, which is typically used to store information on highly sensitive government secrets it would be "unusual" given the contents of the call.

Content of the article The White House did not respond to a request for comment about this story. Reuters was unable to verify the allegations about the server.

AVOIDANCE OF PERSONAL GAIN

According to the complaint, White House officials said they were discussing how to protect the contents of the call "because of the possibility, in the officials' telling that they had witnessed the President abuse his position to benefit himself personally."

The White House released the call summary on Wednesday, after it was discovered that the whistleblower had filed an accusation. The House Intelligence Committee demanded the complaint and on Thursday made it available to the public.

The whistleblower's claims open the possibility of political attacks from his political opponents on the campaign trail.

Content of the article Trump has slammed Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign for her use of a private server to store sensitive government emails. The FBI examined Clinton's handling of classified materials and advised her not to be accused of a crime, even when classified information was in the emails she sent or received.

Clinton denied receiving or sent classified information through her private email account that was not secured. A spokesman for Clinton did not immediately respond to a request for clarification on Thursday.

TRUMP: 'PARTISAN HACK JOB'

Trump has dismissed the whistleblower's complaint as an "partisan hack job."

In August, Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson informed Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire that his office had discovered evidence of "arguable political bias" by the whistleblower. However Maguire concluded that the information was both credible and urgent after a quick examination.

Content of the article. The complaint stated that White House officials had told the whistleblower that it was not the first time Trump's assistants transferred a transcript from one of his conversations to a more restricted computer system "for protecting politically sensitive (rather than sensitive national security) information."

"One White House official described the call as an abuser of the electronic system since the call didn't contain any sensitive information from a security perspective," the whistleblower wrote in the nine page complaint.
