The latest install-at-your-own-risk Minecraft update (snapshot "12w34a") is now available over at the official Mojang blog. After installation, there will be many fundamental changes to the way that maps and nether portals operate. Minecraft-servers-list.co There are also new items, things to make from said items, and probably the most awesome creature you've ever seen.
The "Wither Boss" is a floating skeleton torso with three heads that shoot exploding skulls out of each head. It doesn't appear though the creature actually exists anywhere in the game however, the files are all there, waiting to be hacked the event you have some sort of death wish (as seen in the demo video above by Sethbling).
This update also includes potatoes and carrots. The latter is a reagent that can be used to bake potatoes, and the latter is an important ingredient in potions that are invisible. The potion makes you invisible to any mob around you, but it will not affect your armor or other objects. Meanwhile you can splash the baked potato directly on yourself is silly.
