Three major Danish banks were in favor of a merger in 1990. It was approved on April 6, 1990.

Today, Danske Bank is one of the largest Danish banks and is also one of the largest banks in the Nordic region. Its assets total over $678 billion and it is the largest bank in the country. It operates with six distinct business lines and has 230 branches throughout Denmark.
