The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique adventure in hiking and riding that is to be enjoyed by all.
The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's first cycle tunnel, was inaugurated as part of Jerusalem Ring Path. This 42-kilometer cycle path surrounds Jerusalem.

The tunnel runs along the Nahal Refaim-Emek Mostza path. Its southern entrance is in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban, and the northern entrance is located in Nahal Ein Kerem, about half a mile close to the Kerem junction.

The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was inaugurated by Jerusalem's Heritage Minister ZeevElkin. The ceremony was also attended by Mayor Moshelion, Avi Balehnikov, Gihon Water Company chairman, and hundreds of cyclists.

Jerusalem was once popular tourist destination because of its rich history. Elkin said that today aside from its historical treasures it is also a destination for modern-day tourists. "The launch (of the tunnel) is a further step in the development of Jerusalem as well as the transformation of Jerusalem into a popular city to visit for all kinds of visitors across Israel as well as around the world."

Elkin's ministry, which was also in charge of the project together with Jerusalem Municipality, said that the ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels annually in all aspects of Jerusalem's tourism and in creating innovative attractions and ventures, which connect the glorious historic past of our eternal capital with the future." The works currently underway include road construction, installation of blowers and advanced safety and electrical systems to make the tunnel safe for people to walk through at all times of the year.
