Microsoft's Family Safety App is now Available to All

It should come as no surprise that children are spending more time using their devices during the COVID-19 epidemic. But how can you tell if they're finding the right balance between social media, remote learning and Fortnite? Is It Tho Microsoft's Family Safety app is the solution. The announcement in March of the free application was made public and is now accessible for download by anyone with an iPhone or Android device.



The app allows you to set custom time limits for certain Android, Windows and Xbox applications, such as video games like Minecraft. If your child asks for an extension you have the option of extending their time limit by 15 or 30 minutes, and one, two or three hours. You can also install the Family Safety app so that you are notified whenever your child wishes to purchase through the Microsoft Store.



The app can be set to send an email each week with an activity report that provides a breakdown of your child's screen time based on app and device. The idea is to notify you that there's a problem and have a conversation with your loved one. The app also offers location tracking that allows you to see exactly the place your family members are located in real-time. Microsoft 365 Family subscribers will be able to receive notifications when a family member departs or enters a particular location in the future. The premium plan will include an 'auto safety habit tracking beginning in the US, Canada, Australia and the UK.



These tools aren't very innovative and are of little benefit to your family members when they spend the majority of their time using iPads, iPhones, and iPads. If every member is invested in the Microsoft ecosystem, though it could be a decent dashboard - or a first port of call at the very least, for ensuring they're in good health both on the internet and in the real world.
