How to Host A Minecraft Server

Minecraft is a popular open world game that can play solo or in a multiplayer. You'll need to rent or host a server to play the game multiplayer. Hosting a server is often cheaper than renting. If you would like to host your server, here are the steps that you should follow.



Download the program



You can download the minecraft program from the minecraft website and save it to your computer.



Before downloading the program, you need make sure that your computer is compatible with the program. For instance, you should to ensure that your computer is fast and has adequate RAM.



Since Minecraft requires Java to run, you'll need to ensure that your computer is running the most recent version of java. Java isn't usually installed on Windows computers. You will need to download it from the Java website.



Java is usually installed on Mac computers. They also automatically update. You can download the most recent Java version from the Java website if your Mac isn't equipped with it.



Create the program to be used



After downloading Minecraft, you will need to prepare it for use. If you're running Windows on your computer, you will only have to double-click the file you saved the game to. After double clicking you will see an interface window and a sequence of messages.

You can alter the way you want to play the game



You can do this by accessing the properties file of the server. This can be done using Notepad on Windows or TextEdit in MacOs. You should configure the settings to suit your preferences and then save the changes.



For instance, if you are playing in survival mode, you should leave the game mode setting at zero. However, if you want to play the game in a creative mode you need to change the game mode to 'I'.



Choose who will be able to play the game



You only need to edit this file by adding the usernames of the players you want to connect to the server. To save, press enter after ever username.



Find your public IP address.



This is the address you provide to anyone who needs to connect to the server but he/she is outside your immediate network. It is easy to find the IP address by doing an internet search with an argument such as "what is my IP address"
