In the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route that surrounds Jerusalem's capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

נווה פריצקי The tunnel links Nahal Refaim with Emek Motza. It is located in southern Israel located in Refaim Park. נווה פריצקי Ein Laban is the nearest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.

The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel project was officially inaugurated at a formal ceremony held on Thursday that was attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze'ev Elkin Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov and hundreds of cyclists.

Jerusalem was once a major tourist attraction because of its rich past. Elkin explained that the modern tourist industry is a part of Jerusalem's historical treasures and is also a part of modern-day tourism. "The inauguration of [this] tunnel project is a further part of the expansion of Jerusalem as a city. Jerusalem as well as its development into a desirable city that is attractive to all types of people throughout Israel and around the globe."

Elkin who, along with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, said his ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year in the development of Jerusalem's tourism in all its aspects and the development of innovative tourist attractions and ventures that link the fascinating history of our eternal capital to its future... I encourage all cyclists to take a trip and enjoy the new, well-maintained and modern route which overlooks Old Jerusalem.


Elkin's ministry and the Tourism Ministry budgeted the project.

The Kerem Tunnel first was excavated in the late 90s to relocate an important sewer line for the Gihon Corporation towards Sorek. It is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel that includes the fifth waterline that runs to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water corporation.

Current projects include road construction, installation blowers, and advanced safety systems to ensure that the tunnel is secure to use all year.
