Father of Technoblade, YouTube Minecraft Star Says his Son has Died

He read his son's final message on the YouTube channel where the 20-something had entertained more than 11 million users with Minecraft gameplay and humorous comments. The titlewas "So long nerds."

Technoblade, a YouTube celebrity who gained an audience of millions thanks to his humorous comments on videos of him playing Minecraft was dead as his father announced in a video that was posted on his son's account.

Technoblade's Minecraft gameplay was watched by more than 11 million users. He was a commentator on camera. While he was usually focused on what was happening in the game, in some videos, he talked about things that are as routine as going to the D.M.V. Or as devastating as a cancer diagnosis.

Technoblade's YouTube channel released the video "so long geeks" on Thursday. The video was viewed more 26 million times by Friday afternoon. The video is a departure from the usual style of the channel which is characterized by vibrant bricks with pixelated colors. Instead the man who identified himself as Technoblade's father has been shown sitting in a chair against a stark white backdrop, with a small white dog on his lap.

His father, who doesn't give his name reads an email from his son that begins: "Hello everyone. Technoblade here. You can see me dead if you're watching this.

The message then goes on to reveal Technoblade's initial name, Alex. He didn’t use it on the internet. A few pictures of Alex and his loved ones are also featured in the video. He was not a big fan of showing himself in YouTube videos and preferred to show himself in a crowned sword-wielding porcine.

"If I had another hundred lives I'm pretty sure I'd prefer to be Technoblade again every single time," Alex's letter says. "Those were the happiest years of my life."

His father, who remains emotional throughout the video says that he and his son argued for months about whether or not to record a final video. The father of the son says that Alex wrote the letter and passed away just eight hours later.

He says, "I don’t think he was able to say everything he wanted, however I believe he was able to get the main points."

The video ends with a declaration written by Alex's mother (who isn't identified) wrote. She stated that Alex was not famous and was self-deprecating despite his channel's growing popularity.

"From Technoblade's first days on the web, he was constantly thinking of ways to please and reward his audience by giving away prizes online as well as encouraging good sportsmanship, and, most importantly, sharing his Minecraft adventures to entertain and laugh," she wrote.

Alex's family was unable to contact him on Friday. Hypixel is a gaming company said that the family asked that no information be provided to them. Don Pireso, the company administrator, wrote in a tweet that "The video they shared contains all the information they are confident about sharing."

Alex posted his August video on his YouTube channel, where he first acknowledged his diagnosis of cancer. Like other videos video, it included the game as he was speaking off camera. He retained his self-deprecating, humorous style, avoiding becoming too serious. He also admitted his age of 22.

In the video, he narrated how the first round of chemotherapy left him exhausted to the point that he could barely sit up to make a virtual appointment with a doctor. He then joked "Sitting in the chair is I Superman?"

After experiencing extreme pain in his arm he said he was diagnosed. Although he initially dismissed the pain as a result of repetitive stress from playing video games, he later admitted that his shoulder was swelling after several days of rest.

He also advised people to take the Covid-19 vaccine. He said that his treatment for cancer had weakened the immune system, making him more vulnerable to serious illness from the coronavirus.

"I'm going to try and speak on behalf of all cancer patients when I say that it is extremely annoying that hospitals are overwhelmed by people dying of preventable diseases," he said in the video. "I'm just saying, we're entitled to the beds in hospitals."

On social media, Technoblade's acquaintances and followers were awestruck by his humor and for being a role model among Minecraft players.

Minecraft is different than other games in that the owner, Microsoft does not have control over the servers that players can meet online. Instead, players can build their own servers and join other players to create a vast universe of worlds within the Minecraft universe.

Hypixel who manages a network of Minecraft servers said it had created a digital book where users could write messages and the book would be printed and sent out to Technoblade's loved ones. The tribute included a photo of Technoblade's pig avatar, as sculpture. "In many ways, the success of many of us is tied to the success of Technoblade," the company stated.
