French officials are told to stop gaming Anxioms

France's language watchdog has urged government officials to use French gaming terms instead of English.
The Academie Francaise believes that "jeu video de compétition" should be replaced with "e-sports" and that "streamer" should be replaced with "joueur-animateur direct".
France's ministry of culture told the AFP news agency that Anglicisms were "a obstacle to understanding".
But gamers have criticised the ban, with one calling it "completely pointless".
France regularly warns about the "debasement of its language" by the importation of English words.
Other official translations include "jeu video en nuage" for "cloud gaming".
The Academie Francaise was founded in 1635 by Cardinal Richelieu, and is the official keeper of the French language.
The forty Academie members even sport their own heavily embroidered uniform complete with a ceremonial sword which might not look out of the game like 2014's Assassin's Creed Unity.
The institution has been opposed to the infiltration of English words into French for a long time. Technology has facilitated this.

However, Thelocal.fr reported that a previous attempt to replace "le wifi” with "l'access without internet" was unsuccessful.
One Twitter user opposed the recent ruling and wrote: "I'm French, and I find this ridiculous, nobody will ever want to ever use these terms." This ban is absurd.
However, a number of others in the same group of tweets that were replied to by Eurogamer posted memes indicating they believed that the French versions were more sophisticated than their English equivalents.
