Nick Pope Explains Madness after his Name Trended Worldwide

Nick Pope, Newcastle goalkeeper has revealed the deceit that Toon fans caused when they hijacked an internet poll that put an England man number one on Twitter.



Toon Polls, a Newcastle fan account, took part in an Burger King online poll asking for opinions on gherkins and tomatoes.



The account joked about the tweet 'Nick Pope' and started a trend that saw the likes of McDonalds, Easyjet and Amazon all tweeting the name of the Magpie's summer signing.



In an interview with Sky Sports, the 30-year old shared his story of how he came across the strange incident and the reasons for his phone being flooded with notifications.

"It was a bizarre scenario to come across. I had to glance at my phone a few times and then pinch myself. Said the Magpies stopper.

Pope joined the fun by tweeting his username, which he trended number ten all over the world.



"They were able spread it out in such a way that there were many across the globe. Every corner I turned there was another. If it was one of the other boys, I would do the same.'



Pope's name was among the top ten trending topic in the UK and ranked 10th worldwide. McDonalds offered a free breakfast to Toon Polls if the goalie could play clean against Brighton the following day. This was something he did after Newcastle's goalless draw at The Amex Stadium.



However, he wasn't even the only Nick Pope to attract attention after the poll went viral. The buzz generated by the tweets was also shared by Nick Pope, an Arizona-based UFO expert. It wasn't the first time that Nick Pope and his name Nick Pope had crossed paths as the Newcastle Nick Pope explained.
