Hands-on: Crackdown II's First Missions

In the beginning of Crackdown 2, the objective is straightforward It is that the Agency has created a weapon known as the "Sunburst Defense System," created to swiftly rid Pacific City of its mutated inhabitants, or "freaks," by melting them vampire-like with artificial sunlight. Agents need to activate a series of beacons to triangulate exact positions in which the Sunburst weapon should go to be used to find the hot zones that are notoriously hot (various underground breeding places for people who are infected). The beacons are being protected by "The Cell" which is a terrorist group. As a new generation clone soldier must seize them and activate the Sunburst Defense System.



Crackdown 2 is a slow-paced sequel to the first sandbox adventure. The opening plot is thin and is intended to motivate Agents to explore the open terrain of Pacific City, which was devastated by the mysterious illness. %Gallery-852711% The original game's style is preserved when you travel around the world. The game begins with a slow Agent who improves his abilities by defeating enemies, collecting scattered orbs (925 to be precise). Games Orbs are divided into different categories such as renegade and standard orbs, driving orbs, and hidden orbs; Xbox Live-only orbs that require at minimum one co-op partner to be in your game to unlock. Attempting to alleviate the frustration experienced by players locating the final orbs in the first game, Crackdown 2 features a HUD tracker that is similar to the shard-detection system in inFamous. Tapping on the D-pad will show dots of orbs that are within the radius of the player's on the mini-map.



The progression of players has been made simpler. Experience points go to upgrading capabilities, not unlocking new vehicles and weapons as in the first. Instead, players can choose any weapon (including the new magnetic grenade) or Agency vehicle from the game's Respawn menu.



Players can jump into friend's games at any time, but only the host player can earn the mission's progress in the single-player game. Ruffian Games creative Director Billy Tomson explained that this decision was made so that players who choose to abandon the host's task and cause chaos in different areas of the city will not be required to stop stories in their single-player games. The host had completed all missions in the match. Players who leave a host's match can take their experience as well as any orbs earned during the match with them. This is a fantastic idea for Crackdown players.



At an event that was a preview I played a small portion of Crackdown 2 from the beginning. I was shocked by how slow the pace was. My fondest memories of the original game is of me flying high into the air and taking out enemies with great force. The sequel introduces players to the role of an Agent however this time, they're beginning from the beginning. It takes a while to regain all the power and then some, including the new ability to glidewhich was available to players in the first game.



Contrary to the recently released Just Cause 2, the Sandbox feature of Crackdown 2 doesn't limit the story mode in an attempt to control the pace of the gaming experience. Players are free to roam Pacific City and pursue whatever task they are most interested in at any given moment and know that there's always a mission in front of them. The story is more interesting than the first game's confusing narrative, but the main appeal of Crackdown 2 is to play around in its sandbox. Ruffian Games offers Crackdown 2 as an enjoyable treat instead of the main course. This is in contrast to many open-world titles.



Crackdown 2's first mission drags on, but. Players must scramble to the location of a single beacon in order to activate it, and then they have to repeat the process two more times in order to pinpoint a freak hot zone (there are nine) and call in a Sunburst weapon drop. Once the weapon is dropped at the freak lair, players must fend against waves of mutants as they attempt to destroy the weapon in the process of "charges" before detonation. Oh, no, you'll repeat that nine times.



Crackdown 2's potential to unlock all my character's capabilities and develop into an incredibly powerful Agent through the addictive grind mechanics of collecting orbs and taking on the many frightened characters who show up at night is what I find the most thrilling. Plus, the ability to recruit three companions to help in the mission makes the action-packed gameplay that much more appealing. Crackdown 2 is a more difficult game than Dead Rising 2's zombie invasion. However Crackdown 2's many flimsy characters make Crackdown 2 an even more difficult environment to play in.



Crackdown 2 will be released on July 6.
