Can Minecraft Really help you Build A Career?

Minecraft is a staple in children's leisure time but it is now able to even aid them in pursuing an occupation.

CareersCraft, a new Minecraft world that was launched by Careers Wales, aims to help children aged between eight and 13 to explore and build their skills and knowledge in the field of careers.

It has six zones based around landmarks that include the Senedd, Big Pit, the Coal Exchange and Caernarfon Castle.

Each zone is linked to a particular area of learning in the new Welsh curriculum.

It is available to download for anyone, but an education edition is accessible to all Welsh schools. It is accompanied by lesson plans for teachers.

The players explore the area and complete challenges and activities as they move, learning about the various industries and careers in Wales and learning more about their interests and strengths.

Maggie is student at Risca Comprehensive school in Caerphilly, said that it was an amazing experience and it was a good way to discover various career options using Minecraft.

Another pupil, Ferne, added: "It inspired me to think about my future but in a fun manner."

Gareth Phillips from Careers Wales said: "CareersCraft is a hugely exciting and innovative resource that we hope will boost the expectations and broaden the horizons of future generations.

"It's been amazing to watch young people exploring the globe and developing their thinking and creative skills as well as problem-solving skills, while also learning about Welsh heritage culture and pondering their future career paths."
