Isle of Cumbrae recreated in video game Minecraft

As part of a program to educate young people about the area's history as part of a project to educate young people about the area's history, the Isle of Cumbrae was recreated in Minecraft.
Students at Abertay University in Dundee built Cumbraecraft which was based on the renowned Ayrshire coast tourist destination.
The game includes eight lessons targeted at primary school students.
The virtual island is home to places like Garrison House, Lion Rock and Cathedral of the Isles.
Crocodile Rock, the port and the Millport library are also explorable in the game.
It is specifically designed to be used in both home and classroom settings.
The project was carried out by Romain Bourdon, Fergus Coyne, and Claire Monaghan (Games students) during their studies at Abertay’s School of Design and Informatics.
Due to the current travel restrictions, the trio was not able to visit the island before they began their work. They had to rely on images as their sole point of reference.
The game is part of a regeneration scheme that is run by North Ayrshire Council and Historic Environment Scotland.
The council's regeneration officer Kasia Smith said she was "thrilled" that the game was made available to students.
She added, "Cumbrae has such an interesting past and it's important that our children know about their community heritage and their culture."
