How to use Split-Screen in Minecraft

Do you remember the days when you played console games with your friends on a split screen? Now you can relive those memories and create incredible new ones using Minecraft split-screen. This feature is only available for consoles (Nintendo Switch and PlayStation) However, it is possible to create new memories using Minecraft split-screen.

Your TV screen or console needs to have a minimum resolution of 720p. Split-screen isn't available on PlayStation Vita because it uses QHD (1/4th of 1080p). WiiU does not support split-screen, too, because it only has 480p resolution. For qualifying devices you'll be required to connect them to a TV screen using an HDMI or RGB component cable.

Find out more information here and steps to split the screen in Minecraft.

Minecraft Splitscreen Requirements

As we've already mentioned that you'll need a console and a TV with 720p resolution or greater. Also, you'll need to change the resolution of your console to match the TV. This process is relatively easy to complete. You can access the display options within the settings of your console. PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and Switch usually automatically set the resolution when using HDMI, although previous manual adjustments may result in an issue that requires manual reconfiguration.

You can split the screen in Minecraft locally or online. A local split-screen is able to accommodate up to four players. If you have a huge TV screen, playing with friends or family can be a lot of fun. Let's begin with some tips for local split-screen, and later the online split-screen will get explained as well.

How to Split-screen Minecraft Locally

Local split-screen is a way to play on one console. It should not be confused with LAN (local network) game, which requires multiple devices being utilized. Four players can join any device. The instructions for playing Minecraft in split-screen mode differ slightly for each game console but the instructions below will cover them all.

Here's how to set up a local' split-screen in Minecraft:

1. Connect the console to the TV with an HDMI or component cable, then launch Minecraft.

2. Choose Create New if want to start fresh, or load a previous game from the game list.

3. In the Multiplayer settings, slide the Multiplayer Game to the off position.

4. Set the difficulty and other game options to suit your needs.

5. To start the game, choose Create or Play

6. Use a different controller to activate the second console player and then press the appropriate button(s) to join them in Minecraft. For instance, the PS4 uses the PS button to activate a user and the button Options (pressed twice) to add the second player to Minecraft.

7. Choose the account for the other player (if not done already). XBOX 360 and PS3 use the Minecraft Legacy Console Edition, that is why you must press Start on the second controller to get into the game. After that, it will prompt the player to log into the console.

How to Split-Screen Minecraft Online

You can play Minecraft on a split-screen with your local friends and also with other players online. In the case of online play, it is not available on a split screen however, two or more local players can use the split-screen while playing with those who are online. Here's how to set up a split-screens for online play.

1. Log in to your console using your Xbox Live Gold account or PlayStation Plus account. For XBOX 360 and XBOX One local accounts, and users on XBOX Live Silver (the free Live subscription) are not able to join. PlayStation Plus is not required for the PS3, but it is required for the PS4.

2. Minecraft server hosting For Minecraft Legacy editions, open on your console and choose Play Game, then Load or Create. For Bedrock editions, choose Create New or choose a game on your list.

3. Change your game settings to your preference and then begin playing. Before you start the game ensure that Multiplayer Game is enabled in Bedrock.

4. Other "remote players" can accept your invitation (required), to join your hosted gaming. Split-screen functions are only available on a per-console basis and can be used with up to four players, but they can play online with other players.

Minecraft's an interesting, fun, and creative game. Like any other game, it's better when you play with your friends. You can now split the screen to play Minecraft, like playing those older console games with other players.

PC users might feel left out and feel a bit left out, which is normal. If you have a huge screen it's a shame that you're not able to split it and do the same thing on console. You can search the internet for third-party screen-splitting software but they may not be reliable and they aren't legally licensed.
