Exp Slot in a Video Game Console
Exp slot in a video game console refers to the expansion bus on a console. The expansion buses are ISA, PCI Express and PCMCIA. Each of these expansion buses is available in the Xbox, PlayStation and GameCube consoles.
PCI Express
Among the many different types of expansion slots available on today's computers, the PCI Express slot is the most common. It is a physical slot that protrudes from the motherboard and exposes external ports. The slot is rectangular in shape and has many terminals on both sides.
A PCI Express slot has a number of lanes, which can be configured in several ways. The lanes have four data wires that run in unidirectional differential pairs. Each lane is capable of 2.5, 5, 8, 16 or 32 Gbit/s. The rate at which each lane is usable depends on the traffic profile.
The physical slot is usually located close to the computer case IO shield. It is usually able to support graphics cards that weigh more than five pounds. If the top x16 slot is full, the PCI Express slot may run slower than other cards.

Expansion buses on video game consoles

The game console may also have a media drive 144. This media drive may be comprised of a DVD/CD drive or a removable media drive. This media drive may be connected to the I/O controller 120 via a bus.
