James Whitfield Thomson
James Whitfield Thomson is an early member of Andre Dubus's writers' workshop. Originally from Pittsburgh, he attended Harvard College on a full scholarship and earned his Ph.D. in American Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam before becoming a writer. His novels include Agni and The Ledge. He was awarded a grant from the Massachusetts Council on the Arts.

James Whitfield Thomson

James Whitfield Thomson , a native of Pittsburgh, is a writer and early member of Andre Dubus' writers' workshop. A former sales executive, Thomson served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam and was a member of Dubus's writers' workshop. He currently lives in Natick, Massachusetts, where he penned his first novel, Agni. While many of the characters in Thomson's novels are flawed, they remain remarkably realistic.

Published by Sourcebooks in fall 2013, James Whitfield Thomson's debut novel is an emotional and powerful novel about loss and redemption. The novel is based on the death of Thomson's sister in 1974, which inspired the book. Though not yet a classic, Thomson has won numerous literary awards and is a member of the Writers' Workshop at Harvard. His next novel will be published in April 2016.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Jim Thomson attended Harvard College on a scholarship and later earned a Ph.D. in American Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam, earning a Ph.D. in American Studies. Thomson's debut novel has received numerous awards, including the National Book Award for Fiction and a Commonwealth Grant. Despite the fact that he lives on a scholarship, Thomson writes about his life experiences and the ways in which they influence their characters.

Thomson has written six other novels and short stories. His first novel, "The Ledge," inspired the television series The Ledge. While his work is far from being conventional, it's well worth checking out.

After earning his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, Thomson worked as a salesman for a start-up company and wrote short stories for literary magazines. He also received a Massachusetts Cultural Council grant and lived in a Victorian farmhouse west of Boston. His books have been published in literary journals, including The New York Times, the Boston Globe, and the New Yorker. He lives in an historic Victorian farmhouse west of Boston.

At seventeen years of age, Thomson enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. His parents had already given him permission to enlist. He enjoyed outdoor activities, dancing, and bicycling. He was a proud member of the local community and had many friends throughout his life. It was evident that Thomson enjoyed life and had many interests. His military experience helped him grow and develop as a salesman.
