a counselor is not a therapist.
if you want to really study something in psychology, you have to use the scientific method. it has to be a research base. you cant just think of stuff. in terms of scientific method, how are we gonne explain? whats the questions you have?we need to do a correlation of research. we need to do experiments.it has to follow certain standards. it has to be scientific.
two types of research: experimental and descriptive. describing a phenomena for research. you study something in depth and you describe it. with experimental research, you do experiments,design experiments and find answers. some of the descriptive research that psychologists use is called Case Study. in case studies, you wanna know what goes under the line of serial killer?what do you do? okay let me find some serial killers. jeff domer what was going on on his mind. when was he born? did he have brother and sisters? did he go to school?
lack of empathy of understanding of parents. this is what makes them psychopathic. even though you may have three serial killers your results may not apply to everyone. if you apply all of these to person Y it may work or it may not work. you have a servey of research. servey ppl about their behavior, thoughts . surveys are very good method of way of getting info. but if you turn on CNN what you hear a lot? 85% protest. reserved. surveyed. fox news or abc you get different slinds why? thats the drawback of the survey. survery drawback is who you contact, what question you ask? and whats the method of answer. if i wanna know how many ppl of US population likes coffee is it fare for me to go stand in front of the Starbucks? i'm doing a servey my servy is not a representative sample. it not accurate. you can manipulate the survery of what you do. the way they were questioned on the same topic can influence people ....(33.0) bring a very controversial topic abortion we can say do you think that the mothers have the right to have their kids or to choose a pregnancy thats one way of asking a question the other one is do you think that babies should be killed thats another way of asking im talking abortion right? two diff frames can bring very diff answers. the way you put a question also influences their ... how was it ask where was it ask third more hidden gcc students opinion on psychology so i will send you a package fill this form for me put you opinion and send it to me and i get this results back what is the problem with it ? too much work. they can lie. sometimes ppl dont answer the way they feel. this is why we get in trouble. if i send these servey questions how many of you ... i dont have time for this to read or no let me do this and sed it back if im asking you to do that that means im asking diff subpopulation to answer. the person who is willing to do is a very diff person that the one who said i dont have time for this. you are getting very different sample of population. so serveys can have this problem.
Naturalistics observation: psychologists do this a lot because weare studying to find behaviors you wanna study about behaviors hat do you do? observe. very time he has to assess a student, also have to observe them. teachers perspective is that oh this kids eyes or this kid doesnt behave well but thats the teachers perspetive you have to ask the mother oh my child he is an angel . he has to be the thrid person he goes to he classroom and he has to observe this kid. if the child knows who i am, vs if he doesnt know who i am, how is the behavior gonne change? if he knows who i am he is gonne be careful for him to do a naturalistic observation before testing the kid with their iq and abilities if i first test him so he knows what im doing, when i go observe him, my presence in that env is gonne screw their behavior. always he tries to go first observe so they don't know who is zareh. will this solve the problem? no the very fact and extra adult .. so its not naturalistic on top of that the kids behavioral issue takes a long time. he is going to observe them as many times. the kid will know zareh wants to observe. sometimes teachers have diff perspective on kids behavior some of us tolerate base. teachers comfortable with kids going all around and some of them get upset with small things that the child does. all of these have positive side and negative sides.
