Seven stunning Minecraft creations By Joe Miller Technology reporter
Many of us will have first introduced to Minecraft when Microsoft announced it was paying $2.5bn (PS1.5bn) for the company that developed the top-selling video game.
For a number of years, a dedicated community has been working in the Minecraft universe, painstakingly creating intricate cyberspace marvels.
Here are seven of our favorites:
Game of Thrones
Mapmakers WesterosCraft is with a goal: to recreate the world that George RR Martin created in the Game of Thrones books. The goal is to create an opportunity for roleplaying within the fantasy world.
A working 16-bit computer
A Minecraft gamer with the username ohmganesha created a fully functional 16-bit laptop in less than two weeks. The virtual machine comes with 32 bytes of RAM (random-access memory) and the 256 bytes of ROM (read-only memory).
This Cathedral
Patrix, the architect of the edifice, stated that it took him only two nights to construct. He also said that he'd never been inside a cathedral in person.
A hard drive that is working
Cody Littley's drive can store just a single kilobyte data, which may seem unimpressive when compared with ordinary discs until you consider that Mr Littley - a computer science PhD student in Texas constructed it piece-by-piece.
An entire city
The Aurora City Project artists admit that it may never be finished. However, the intricate cityscapes prove why. You can see several screenshots here.
All of Denmark
To aid children's learning to read, the Danish government set out to map the entire country using Minecraft. The project was later targeted by vandals and parts of the landscape were blown up by virtual "dynamite".
