Steam Guides are a Numbing Affair, Say PC Gaming Fans

From Counter-Strike:GO guides mocking Valve's anti cheat service that asks 'How do I make VAC work' (the body text reading "it doesn't work") to a multitude of 'How-to jump/walk/shoot' entries that simply list the appropriate button to press, typically in a slightly over-elaborate manner, the Steam guides section is a swamp of entries which aren't useful, even if they're entertaining.



A thread on the Steam subreddit titled 'Steam guides before vs. now I'd like to go back' brought attention to the issue and swiftly gained traction in the community. Many users are unhappy with the flood of spam submissions, saying they miss the days where guide content was easy to find. In theory, the most effective guides for a particular game should be voted up - but some of the users say they've been putting off posting or browsing guides on Steam because the user experience is poor today.



Some comments also note the same issue that is faced by Steam reviews. One user states that "Valve promoted too much with the 'Funny' button on Steam reviews," suggesting that the option to reward players for funny reviews has also caused a level of tomfoolery that affects PC gamers' ability to find accurate reviews of certain products.
