DICE Awards Journey wins


Chen revealed that the studio was insolvent prior to game's release.

Journey was awarded Game of the Year at the 2013 Design Innovate Communicate Entertain Awards (DICE), along with seven other awards.



Thatgamecompany's meditative video was awarded Game of the year, Outstanding Achievements in Game Direction and Outstanding Innovation in Gaming. Casual Game of the year was also awarded. Outstanding Achievements in Art Direction Outstanding Achievements in Online Gaming Outstanding Achievements in Music Composition Originality Outstanding Achievements in Sound Design.



It was nominated in all categories, but it didn't win Outstanding Achievement in Gameplay Engineering (which went at XCOM: Enemy Unknown) and Outstanding Achievement In Story (which was given to The Walking Dead).



The win will be sweet for the boss of thatgamecompany Jenova Chen, who in his DICE address mentioned that development of the game was a financial disaster for her studio.

Journey took longer than the three years Sony had financed his studio to create Journey, and Chen could not pay his employees until they were done working on the game.



It's been a massively successful PlayStation Network release.



In other news, that PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale won Fighting Game of the Year could have been a bit of consolation for Superbot after the studio was shut down by Sony earlier this month.



All nominees were put forward by the DICE academy's peer panel, and all academy members could vote for the winners.
