Getting Vines Where You Need Them
Vines can be utilized within your landscape to produce many different effects. Vines are perfect for covering structural walls, boulders, stone walls, etc. In many areas the ivies are widely-used a lot more than other vines. The quickest growing ivy is Boston Ivy. Another good vine for walls is Japanese Bittersweet. It can be an evergreen and grows well for the north side of buildings. It also does well in exposed locations.
Large and small-leaved kinds of Winter-creeper are hardy vines that can be used for wall planting. Other vines that cling without aid to concrete, stone and brick include English ivy, Lowe ivy, Chinese trumpet-creeper and Virginia creeper (also referred to as woodbine or American ivy).
