Minecraft 1.20-everything we Know about the Upcoming Major Minecraft Update

Minecraft 1.20-everything we know about the next major Minecraft update

Minecraft 1.20 does not yet have an official name, but it is focused on "creativity and intrinsic motivation".

As we've all been waiting for, Minecraft 1.20 will be the next major Minecraft update that will be released in 2023. But, it's yet to have a name. Recently, Mojang stated that it has learned from showing off features too early . mcprofile This can lead to players being disappointed when things change or get pushed back to later versions. This time, we've only seen part of the total features list for 1.20, and do not have a name to base our hopes on.

We do know that Mojang has stated that update 1.20 will focus on "self expression and creativity and motivation that is intrinsic." This last part was something I discussed with Agnes Larsson, Minecraft's game director, and Nir Vaknin, the game's gameplay designer, when I spoke to them in the spring of 2022. They don't want Minecraft to feel clingy according to them and they'd like players to return because they're feeling inspired, not because they feel forced by the crafting grind.

It's no surprise then that a lot of the new features we've heard about for 1.20 are centered around building: new aesthetic blocks and an actual bookshelf. The camel mount that can be found in the deserts, also a nod to adventure.

The feature list is like it's a bit short at present, but we know Mojang will reveal additional features for version 1.20 as we approach the release date. Here are the full details of the upcoming update that we've learned so far:

When will the Minecraft 1.20 update launch?

Minecraft 1.20 will launch sometime in 2023, but Mojang has not given a specific date yet. Mojang has stated that features in the update are close to being developed completely It is likely that we will see the next version launched a year following the latest one, sometime in the summer of 2023.

Although the full update won't launch for some time but we'll be able to test Minecraft 1.20 features soon. Mojang announced that it will begin the release of Minecraft Preview builds and 1.20 snapshots within a few days of the reveal stream on October 15.

What new blocks are being added to Minecraft 1.20?

So far the new blocks for Minecraft 1.20 we've seen so far are mostly focused on personalizing the build and telling stories with new devices. There is also the functional chiseled bookcase and the bamboo wood type, and hanging signs.

Hanging signs:they'll come in wall or ceiling designs, as well as narrow hanging varieties.

Bamboo wood: a complete set of bamboo wood blocks that include trapdoors, doors, as well as planks.

Raft: the bamboo version of an a-boat is actually a flat raft that you can ride on.

Bamboo mosaic A brand new kind of decorative block made just for bamboo.

Chiseled bookshelf:A functional bookshelf that can accommodate up to six books on.

The bookshelf that has been chiseled is particularly neat thanks to its redstone signaling capability. It emits the redstone signal in response to how many books it holds. This signal could be used to power some interesting secret doors, Mojang suggests. Mojang states that the shelf does not come with an inventory interface. This means that you will place books on the shelf by clicking it with the book in your hand or using a reticle to point and clicking with your empty handed.

The new Minecraft 1.20 mobs include the camel and sniffer

Two new mobs have been added to Minecraft 1.20 as of now The other mob is the

Camel

Mojang selected itself as a new mount for the desert and sniffer, which was a winner in the community mob vote.

Camels can be seen wandering around desert villages walking or sitting and fluttering their ears. Camels are a novel type of mount. They can seat two people. That means you can bring a friend with you on a journey between bases without having two different mounts. Camels also come with a horizontal dash ability for crossing ravines.

The sniffer is an extinct overworld mob that you'll need to resurrect by finding their eggs. They're large and turtle-like, with mossy rears and large yellow snouts. They have floppy ears and large ears. After hatching, sniffers take old seeds from the ground to plant.

Minecraft will be sporting seven new default character skins

No longer do you need to choose between Alex or Steve for your default Minecraft face. Mojang has introduced seven new default characters: Makena (Efe), Noor, Kai Ari, Sunny, Sunny, and Zuri. Mojang states that this is a part of its efforts to aid players with self-expression, by providing a wide range of new default characters to play as.

Minecraft Bedrock players still have access to the dressing room to design their Minecraft characters. Java players can also download a variety of Minecraft skins created by other players. However, it's nice to give a nod to new characters.

The new default characters for Minecraft are actually being introduced prior to the update 1.20 sometime in the month of November or December 2022, Mojang says.

Is there a new biome added to Minecraft 1.20?

Unfortunately no, it doesn't seem likely, Mojang said during a Q&A with press on update 1.20. Mojang has said it hasn't yet announced the complete feature list for the update, meaning it could still be keeping a biome surprise. It's best to trust Mojang at its word and not get our hopes up just yet but, well, anything is possible.

The last major Minecraft update that didn't include any new biomes was Minecraft 1.15 and Buzzy Bees in 2019. The update placed an attention on the bee mob as well as all the related items, including honey blocks and nests. If version 1.20 does not also include a new biome we can probably expect a similar focus on other areas instead.
