Hello, new snapshot! Hello, new cave generation!
The snapshot today introduces a significant change in the way caves are generated within Minecraft. It could be said that we're now introducing the cave portion of Caves & Cliffs.
This is only the first step in our underground journey, so please note that snapshots depict features in early development and that there are two notable caveats with this snapshot:
- You'll be unable to access old worlds in this snapshot as there's currently no upgrade path to the new world's height. All caves of the new type between y31 and y63 will be filled with water
New Features in 21w06a
- Noise caves and aquifers are added
Aquifers and noise caves
Noise caves are a brand new way of generating caves that offer more natural variety. They can grow to be huge sometimes! There are two kinds of noise caves that are called cheese caves and cheese caves. Similar to the holes found in Swiss cheese. These often form caverns of different sizes. - Spaghetti caves. Cohune.com Long squiggly tunnels, sometimes large enough to resemble Tagliatelle.
Changes in 21w06a
- Overworld build and generation limits were increased . Mineshafts have been modified to larger caves. A large dripleaf that is redstone powered will break instead of tumbling when struck by an object. - Textures for small dripleaves and hanging roots have been updated.
- The generation range and build limits were widened by 64 blocks and 64 blocks, respectively, for 384 blocks. Underground structures, underground features, and caves produce all down to y-64.
Mineshaft changes
- Mineshaft pieces don't generate if they would be fully floating in the air - Mineshaft corridors are anchored by log pillars whenever needed - No floating cobwebs
Fixed bugs in 21w06a
MC-214346: The big dripleaf can easily be broken by Arrows from the spawn protection MC-213813. Small dripleaf is capable of destroying any block.
