Basic info: Zainul Abedin was a Bengali painter and activist from East Bengal, India (now Bangladesh). He became well known in 1944 as a result of his drawings that portrayed the Great Bengal Famine. He won numerous awards throughout his lifetime. A gallery of his own works and an honorary degree from the University of Delhi were presented to him. He also co-founded the very first art institution in what was then East Bengal.

Artists style: Although having many art styles 2 of his most well know were the black ink famine sketches and his 'Bengali style' where the main features were: folk forms with their geometric shapes, sometimes semi-abstract representation and the use of primary colours only.

Analysis on my work:

Thoughts on the style: Both of these styles are very interesting and the limited colour palette only adds to the uniqueness. Although Abedin's folk style was fun to re-create and the Famine sketches has a strong message, I prefer doing pieces with more colour and brighter personality.
