Minecraft offers its educational worlds for free to pupils who cannot go to school due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 12 digital lessons can be downloaded until June 30th.

These include tours of the International Space Station as well as the inside of a human's eyes. They can be "played on your own or with your family or friends".

The worlds offer puzzles and writing that are creative and also build challenges.

Other lessons include:

Puzzle games to teach students about how code is written and how to think like programmers

A visit to Washington DC's most historic sites, including the White House, the Pentagon and the Lincoln Memorial

A game that involves generating power from alternative energy sources, such as wind and nuclear

In a blog, Microsoft Minecraft's creator said that educators across the world are doing all they can to offer digital education to half a billion students who are not able to attend school because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"This is not an easy job, and we want to keep young minds sharp and active."
