- 1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup of unsalted butter, softened
1 1/3 cups white sugar
- 4 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk
1 1/2 tablespoons of milk
Decoration:
1/4 cup cherry jam
- 3 cups chocolate buttercream frosting
- 14 ounces marzipan
- 5 drops red food coloring, or as required
- 1 tablespoon confectioners' sugar, or as needed
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9-inch square cake pans.
In a large bowl, combine 2/3 cups of flour, 1 1/2 tablespoon flour, 1/2 cup plus 3 teaspoons cocoa powder baking powder, salt, and 3 tablespoons baking powder.
Beat butter and white sugar together in a bowl with an electric mixer until fluffy and light about 4 minutes. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla extract. Add flour mixture alternately with 1 cup plus 1 1/2 tablespoons of milk, gently mixing batter between each addition.
Divide batter evenly between the cake pans that have been prepared.
Bake in the oven for 30-40 mins or until a toothpick placed in the center comes out clean. Let the pan cool for 10 minutes. Invert onto a wire rack and let it cool completely, approximately 30 minutes.
To ensure that the cake layers are even cut the tops. Place one layer on a platter for serving. Spread jam on top, then cover with the second layer. Spread chocolate buttercream frosting on sides and the top of the cake, reserving approximately 2 tablespoons frosting.
Take a small amount of marzipan about the size of a golfball. Mix in red food coloring. Knead until the mixture is evenly distributed.
Sprinkle confectioners' sugar over a flat surface and roll out any remaining, uncolored marzipan. Cut out a 9-inch square; carefully transfer it to the top of the cake.
Cut marzipan trimmings into four 9x1-1/4-inch lengths. Cut 3 rectangular notches into one edge of each strip. Place the strips on the sides of the cake, with the notches facing downwards. To adhere you can gently press the top and strips of marzipan together.
Roll out red marzipan and cut into squares of varying dimensions. To serve as glue, spread a tiny amount of the frosting reserved on each square. Then arrange a random Minecraft design on top.

Cook's Notes:
If you prefer strawberry jam, you can substitute it for the cherry jam. You can also sandwich the layers with buttercream, instead of jam.
You can substitute marzipan for 14 ounces of store-bought, white fondant frosting. You can further decorate the cake with Minecraft cake toppers, available on the internet, or even use the Minecraft LEGO(R) Steve and Creeper figurines.
