Microsoft knows that Minecraft can help kids get into programming, and it's banking on this strategy once again this year. Frehtml5.co The Minecraft Hour of Code Designer tutorial teaches children 6 years and older how to create a simple game. It was created by Microsoft and Code.org. The Designer utilizes a drag-and drop interface to illustrate common code concepts, such as loops and object-oriented programming while letting your imagination fly in the Minecraft world. You can have chickens drop gold, and set rules that are as bizarre or as logical as you want.
The tutorial is available in 10 languages, and will be available in 50 languages when Computer Science Education Week begins on December 5th. It's not the same as picking up a programming language for sure. However, Microsoft and Code.org are betting that this will show the importance of code to kids, and start some of them on a path to computer science careers.
