Blizzard Considers Running Classic 'World Of Warcraft Servers

Do you miss the early, headier days of World of Warcraft, before endless changes transformed it into a different beast? You're not the only one. Gaming crypto A huge number of people played on Nostalrius, an open-source server, until Blizzard shut it down in April because of intellectual property concerns. However the game studio isn't mute to your pleas. It's telling WoW players that it has thought about operating its own "pristine" servers, without the boosts and tweaks that have slipped into the online game over the years.



There are no specific plans in place therefore don't expect any developments in the near future. But, this isn't idle talk. Blizzard is also in contact with some Nostalrius operators. Discussions have gotten more lively significantly since Nostalrius was shut down. It is possible that a new official server will be developed, which shares at least a portion of the alternatives created by the community.



It might seem counter-intuitive for Blizzard to consider a server that is old-fashioned as it typically wants you to have the most recent and innovative features. It's feasible, but there is logic to it. WoW is now 12 year old and its subscriber base has been decreasing. A throwback server may not only help avoid legal issues, but keep some long-time fans from cancelling their subscriptions. While it's unlikely to bring about revival, it could aid in preventing the inevitable.
