I can also see how people with personalities that are just not compatible with a core philosophy would not succeed in AA and view it as a cult. Is there any group out there that does not have a core philosophy? These people, however, probably have issues in any group setting in which conformity to certain standards is an element of reaching a common goal. Is there any group out there where some level of conformity is not needed to reach a common goal?

Some people get away with dangerous and illegal habits such as we are describing here but the police catch many more of these offenders than you think. If you are caught then you will have to deal with the consequences brought on by your careless actions.

The Alcoholics Anonymous is a group of recovering alcoholics whose main goal is to help other addicts to stay off alcohol. It is a spiritual society that is known all over the world. They help addicts with their main program known as twelve-step, a program that has been a source of motivation for other recovery group of people. The program is aimed at making the members sober. This is what many people don't understand. This group is out to help you and not harm you.


Admitting powerlessness is a pretty tall order. After all, nobody wants to admit that they have no power. The truth is that power is an illusion. We cannot actually MAKE another person act in a certain way.

Then there are those, probably the majority of sober AA-ers, who continue to practice their birth religion until they die. They become better Catholics, better Presbyterians, better Muslims, better Buddhists etc. The various religious denominations by the way find no conflict between the teachings and practices of alcoholics anonymous and their own dogma, theology and liturgy. They don't see us as a threat or in competition with them. If they are truly worried about us, why do so many AA meetings occur in the church basements of many different denominations?
