When a pop band pokes humanity with a big stick, they tend to highlight the frailty of life. Yet, with the new album, Koria Kitten Riot is able to make listeners smile. The songs, written in a familiar style, are light-hearted and uplifting. The lyrics poke fun at the world and remind us that there is something to look forward to, despite our woes. Lead singer Matt Haig aims to change that by offering his optimistic perspective on life.
Antti Reikko
Finnish quintet Koria Kitten Riot is coming out with their debut album. The album was recorded in Reikko's bedroom and features all instruments except vocals. Reikko also plays piano and mandolin. His band, Johnny Superhero, also contributed drum tracks and bassist Damian Rice contributed trombone work. While all the recording was done in Reikko's bedroom, he mixed the final tracks in Eino Anttila's studio.
Originally a solo project, the band has since evolved to a five-piece touring band. The group's new album, "Mommy," is a testament to the talent of the singer-songwriter. Despite their small size, the band has been touring and recording since 2009 and is preparing for their next release. Known for their melodic and thought-provoking songs, Koria Kitten Riot's music is influenced by the works of Wilco, Elliott Smith, and The Flaming Lips.
