On December 23, Minecraft fans will get their opportunity to buy the DVD version of 2 Player Productions' documentary, Minecraft: The Story of Mojang. This follows the release of Minecraft: The Story of Mojang on Xbox 360 on Saturday, December 22.
The DVD will be available for sale until Fangamer for $20 The first 7,000 copies coming wrapped in the custom "dirt brown" case, which comes with an reversible cover as well as an entry code for a free download of the film in 720p HD. You can also stream the film or buy it directly from the official site. After that you can return to playing Minecraft proper - that massive lava tower isn't likely to create itself.
WORLDWIDE - On Sunday, December 23rd at 12:00am EST (9pm PST/11pm GMT/10pm CET) Minecraft: The Story of Mojang will be available for sale worldwide on DVD through Fangamer and digital download and streaming at theminecraftmovie.com, powered by Redux.
Fangamer will sell the DVD copy of this film for $20.00 USD. The first 7000 copies will come with an exclusive custom-designed dirt brown DVD case, a reversible cover featuring unique artwork on the b-side and a redemption code that allows you to receive a free 720p copy. Digital content provider Redux will offer download-to-own versions of the film, as well as streaming across the web mobile, tablets, and connected TVs for $8.00 USD.
On December 22, at 8:00 pm ET (5pm PST/7pm GMT/8pm CT), Minecraft will be broadcast live on Xbox Live in the U.S. and U.K. How About That All Xbox Live Gold members will receive the movie at no cost.
The documentary follows Markus Persson, the Minecraft creator who rose to fame in the year 2011. It also examines the intricate aspects of creating an industry of video games. Minecraft continues to be a worldwide phenomenon with sales of more than 17.5 million copies across the globe.
Minecraft: The Story of Mojang was financed through Kickstarter.com by 3,641 donors. It took almost two years to complete. Because the film was crowd-funded, 2 Player Productions decided to eschew the traditional methods of distribution and screenings at festivals.
