The Third Tab is for Building Materials

Java Edition's crafting table interface.

Crafting is the process of making tools, items, and blocks in Minecraft. Crafting is the act of moving items from an inventory to a grid for crafting and arranging them according the recipe. A crafting table can access three grids, including two-by-two crafting grid. Items created within the 2x2 grid can also be crafted in the crafting table.

2x2 Crafting grid (inventory)

3x3 Crafting grid (crafting table)

Creative, Survival, Adventure and Spectator (Java Edition only) players always have access to the 2x2 crafting grid through their inventory screen. There are a few crafting recipes that can be made that are not more than 2x2. These include crafting tables, sticks and crafting boards, torches, and other shapeless items. To craft items using a grid of 3x3 make a table for crafting with 4 wooden planks and place it in the open and then press use while facing it. The interface will be displayed with a 3x3 grid that the player can use to create any recipe for crafting within the game. You can also access all crafting recipes from the recipe book.

Some recipes don't require that the ingredients be placed in a certain way on the grid of crafting. They are sometimes referred to as shapeless recipes. Players can create a fermented spider-eye by placing its ingredients anywhere on the grid. [note 1]

However, many recipes require that ingredients be placed in the correct relative positions on the grid for crafting. They are also known as shaped recipes. Ingredients in recipes with a shape can be moved up or down, left, or right. They can also flip sidesways. For example, a 3x1 recipe, such as bread, can be made using the top, middle, or the bottom row of the 3x3 grid. However, it cannot be made with the 2x2 grid as it must be three items wide. Additionally, a bow may be made using strings that are placed on the left instead of on the right.

Some recipes cannot be replicated or moved in this manner. These are generally referred to as fixed recipes. For example, dyes in banner recipes have to be placed in a specific way to achieve the desired pattern. [Bedrock Edition only] Data packs and mods can be added to fixed recipes.

As opposed to other game-related actions like brewing, smelting, and the enchanting, crafting is totally silent.

shapeless recipes are marked with an intertwined pair of arrows on the table of crafting. This symbol is not used in the game. Recipe Book[Recipe Book[

The recipe book is a feature in Minecraft that acts as a recipe book and as a crafting guide. It provides every crafting recipe the player has the ingredients for.

There are a variety of ways to organize recipes for crafting like the following:

The first tab contains every unlocked recipe. The second tab contains weapons, armor, tools, and other materials. The third tab is for building materials. - The fourth tab contains food items and other miscellaneous items. The fifth tab is made up of redstone items. Recipe system[]

Data packs in Java Edition and add-ons to Bedrock Edition can be used to modify recipes, including crafting recipes. As of version 1.16, there are 379 crafting recipes.

Complete recipe list[]

To save space, some recipes are animated (requires JavaScript). This wiki categorizes recipes that are not shapeless with a pair intertwined, connected arrows on its crafting table graphic. Recipes that are fixed for crafting are marked by an exclamation mark. These symbols are not present in the game.
