Father of Technoblade, YouTube Minecraft Star Says his Son Has Died

He read his son's last message on the YouTube channel where the 20-something had entertained more than 11 million users with Minecraft gameplay and wry comments. The title "so long nerds."

Technoblade, a YouTube celebrity who gained an online following of millions through his wry comments on videos of him playing Minecraft was dead as his father announced in a video that was posted on his son's account.

More than 11 million subscribers made a habit of watching screen recordings of Technoblade's Minecraft gameplay while he offered commentary off camera. He presented the everyday events of life in his videos which range from mundane as going to the doctor for a D.M.V. or as devastating as the diagnosis of cancer.

A video titled "so long nerds" that was uploaded to Technoblade's YouTube channel on Thursday, and has been viewed more than 26 million times by Friday afternoon, deviated from the channel's usual aesthetic of colorful, pixelated bricks. Instead, a man who identifies himself as Technoblade's father is shown sitting in a chair against a stark white background with an adorable white dog on his lap.

His father, who does not identify himself, reads an email from his son that begins: "Hello everyone. Technoblade is here. If you are watching this, I am dead."

The message continues to reveal Technoblade's first name, Alex. He didn’t use it online. The video also features some photos of Alex with his loved ones. Alex had never presented himself in his YouTube videos, preferring to show himself in his character: a crown-crowned, sword-wielding pig.

Alex's letter states "If I had another hundred years of years to live, I'm sure I'd pick Technoblade again every time." "Those were the most joyful years of my life."

His father, who remains emotional throughout the video says he and his son talked for months about whether or not to record a final video. Instead, Alex decided to write the letter, and died approximately eight hours after completing it, his father says.

He says, "I don’t think he did everything he wanted to, however I believe he got the main points."

The video concludes with a letter that Alex's mother (who is not named) wrote. She wrote that her son was averse to fame and was self-deprecating, even as his channel skyrocketed in popularity.

"From Technoblade's earliest online days, he was always strategizing ways to delight and reward his audience by offering online prizes, encouraging good sportsmanship and, most importantly, sharing his Minecraft adventures for entertainment and laughs," she wrote.

Alex's family could not reach him on Friday. Hypixel Gaming, a gaming firm said that the family asked that no comments be made to them. "The video they shared includes all the information they're comfortable sharing at this time," Don Pireso, the company's lead administrator, said in a Twitter direct message.

Alex uploaded his August video on his YouTube channel, where the first time he acknowledged his diagnosis of cancer. The video, which showed Alex speaking off camera and played the game. He maintained his self-deprecating and humorous style, avoiding becoming too serious. He also revealed his age at the time, 22.

In the video, he narrated how the first round chemotherapy left exhausted, he could barely sit up for a virtual doctor's appointment. minecraft servers Then the comedian joked: "Sitting in a chair, am I Superman?"

He said he was diagnosed after he experienced severe pain in his arm. He initially dismissed it as a strain injury due to playing video games, but after some days of rest, he said that his shoulder "was swelling like crazy."

He also urged people to get the vaccine Covid-19, saying that the treatment for cancer have weakened his immune system, putting him at a higher risk of serious illness from the coronavirus.

"I'm going to go ahead and speak on behalf of all cancer patients when I say it is incredibly annoying when the hospitals are overwhelmed by patients dying from preventable diseases," he said in the video. "I'm just saying, we're entitled to the beds in hospitals."

On social media, Technoblade's acquaintances and fans praised him for his humor and for being a role model among Minecraft players.

Minecraft is different than other games in that the owner, Microsoft does not have control over the servers where players can connect online. Instead, players can create their own servers or join one created by someone else, resulting in an expansive network of worlds in the Minecraft universe.

Hypixel which manages a network of Minecraft servers, announced that it had designed a digital memorial book to allow people to write messages which would be printed and sent to the Technoblade family. Hypixel's tribute included a drawing of Technoblade's pig-like avatar as a statue. "In many ways the success of many of us is tied to the success of Technoblade," the company stated.
