The Minecraft RTS Spinoff is Inventing new Enemies, Too

Similar to Minecraft Dungeons, Legends is creating new mobs for Minecraft.

Minecraft Legends creative director Magnus Nedfors and executive producer Dennis Ries sat down during the Xbox booth livestream at Gamescom this week to provide some new information about Legends which include information on some new mobs-both friend and foe. Mojang Interactive and Blackbird Interactive are launching a new RTS spinoff that will make its mark in the Minecraft world, as with previous genre experiments. Dungeons broke the rules of Minecraft legend to create mobs that be appropriate for its action RPG world, and Legends is also doing the same.



The big baddies in Minecraft Legends are the familiar Nether villagers, referred to as the Piglins. The Piglins were revealed in the initial trailer. While we're used to Piglins and Hoglins in Vanilla Minecraft, Legends is including a "Pigmadillo," which crouches down into a cube, and contrary to what you'd think from the cube's physics it is able to roll offensively towards the object it's trying to attack. There are also "Bruisers" that Ries notes come with two razor blades to wield. Bit horror-esque, innit? The latest trailer for Mojang's cinematic film features both mobs.



On the other side, you will find two types of golem joining your ranks: the Cobblestone Golem who is great at destroying enemy structures , and the Plank Golem which Ries calls a "Plank Golem", which is an armed unit that can be ranged. They also mention speed wheat, which is a special type of mushroom designed to jump high. You can use it to travel around the world and unlock new areas in Legends.



Minecraft Dungeons, for its part, also added new mobs such as the Iceologers and Mountaineers. The Iceologers ended up being included in the Minecraft Live 2020 fan vote for which mob to add to Vanilla Minecraft. They lost to the Glow Squid, but I wouldn't be too surprised to see one of these new Legends baddies given the same chance to achieve Vanilla Minecraft fame.



In case you missed it, there is definitely a badger at the beginning of the trailer too. Project Badger was the codename of Minecraft Legends before it was made public. It could be a reference to. It could even be granted official mob status.
